Nancy Guppy, RD, MHSc
Registered Dietitian and Chef Instructor
Nancy has traveled much of the world and still
wants to live and work in northeastern Ontario.
Chapman's Landing Cooking Studio is one of her new
entrepreneurial ventures where she is working to
create a sustainable culinary tourism business which
draws on her extensive nutrition and culinary
background while promoting other Ontario chefs,
registered dietitians and historic Nipissing
village.
She has been a registered dietitian for the past
17 years. She was raised in the restaurant business
in Northern Ontario and admits she comes from a
"food family." This is where she started
her lifelong passion for cooking and serving healthy
food. Nancy has been teaching nutrition and cooking
for the past 19 years and is an expert in many areas
including diabetes, heart health and vegetarianism.
She teaches people to work with whole grains,
legumes, fresh herbs and locally produced foods in
order to improve their health and enjoy a return to
"slower foods." Nancy enjoys empowering
people to assess and improve their own diets and
lifestyles whether it be for good health or to help
manage chronic diseases or nutrition problems like
food allergies.
She has a wide variety of work experiences
including managing catering operations and
institutional nutrition and food services in acute
and long-term care centres. Nancy has developed
college nutrition curriculum and has worked as a
part-time nutrition professor in the Food and
Nutrition Management program, School of Hospitality
at Canadore College since 2002. She continues to
consult with the food industry to develop new
products and take them to market. Currently Nancy
provides a wide range of consultative services such
recipe, product and menu development, cooking and
food demonstration, computerized nutrient analysis,
nutritional labeling, market research for the
government and food industry and more. For more

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?
A dietitian is a health professional who has a Bachelor's
degree, specializing in foods and nutrition, as well as a
period of practical training in a hospital or community setting.
Many dietitians further their knowledge by pursuing a Master's
or Doctoral degree. Registered dietitians are your trusted
experts for food, nutrition and diet advice. The title “registered
dietitian,” “professional dietitian” and
“dietitian” are all protected by law so that only
qualified practitioners who have met education qualifications
can use that title. The title nutritionist can be used by
people with different levels of training. Some qualified dietitians
use the word “nutritionist” or “nutrition
consultant” in their job title, so check their credentials
to be sure you are talking to an expert. All registered dietitians
must have the credentials RD after their name in Ontario.
Dietitians are members of a provincially regulated profession
that has Public Protection as their mandate. Dietitians are
held accountable for their conduct and the care they provide.
