Winter Soups, Warm Salads (Gluten Free) private function: Stay warm and well nourished this winter with easy, colourful recipes for soups and warm salads. Learn to make a slow simmered chicken stock, artful garnishes for the soup bowl and accompanying herb muffins. Recipes are gluten free, higher in fibre and lower in fat and salt. The session consists of a 1 hour education session that is led by a Canadian Diabetes Association presenter followed by a 45 minute Grocery Store Tour led by the dietitian. Cooking with DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) Gluten Free: Learn to eat a healthy diet following DASH diet principles which have been shown to lower blood pressure. The DASH diet contains foods that are lower in sodium but they are also rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium - nutrients that are also associated with lowering blood pressure. The DASH diet features menus with plenty of vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy/alternative products, as well as whole grains, fish, poultry and nuts. Heart Healthy - Mediterranean Diet (Gluten Free): This delicious gourmet cooking class features local foods fit into the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid. Celebrate the harvest! We will look briefly at the role of the Mediterranean diet in weight loss, preventing and helping to manage depression, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma and more.

I will do a bit on "Cholesterol 101." What do the numbers mean? How do I lower triglycerides? Are some eggs healthier than others? Do you have questions about oils, probiotics, vitamins, antioxidants, garlic or plant ingredients?

I will use local vegetables, herbs and berries growing around the farm as well as wild and organic food. The menu incorporates olive oil, nuts and Ontario cheese with legumes, Lake Nipissing fish and abundant vegetables and fruits.
